Tamper-proofing pharmaceutical packaging

HERMA has developed a tamper-evident labelling machine for the tamper-proof sealing of pharmaceutical packaging. The system seals folding boxes with transparent labels that are perforated in the centre.

Thanks to this first-opening guarantee, packages that have been opened can no longer be resealed without detection, as required e.g. by the EU directive 2011/62/EU as of 2016. The system masters another challenge during the labelling process: the tuck-in flaps of the folding boxes that must be sealed can be situated either on the top right and bottom left of the box or on both sides of the bottom.

In order to provide the required versatility, HERMA uses different format sets that can be easily and quickly changed by the user. In addition to sealing labels, the machine can also apply vignette or Bollini labels. Moreover, a Data Matrix code and an individual serial number are printed on the folding boxes. The tamper-evident labelling machine reaches a maximum speed of 300 products per minute, making it suitable for the requirements of serialization which is about to become mandatory.
